Milan are trying to do all they can to retain Rafa Leao at San Siro and his teammates wouldn’t be bothered if he signed a deal that would make him the highest-paid player in the club, reports Tuttosport.

The Turin-based paper reports the Rossoneri will do everything within their financial possibilities to offer Leao a ‘satisfying deal’ and convince him to turn down offers from top European clubs, notably in the Premier League.

As a result, the club could push themselves to increase his seasonal wages to around €7m, an unmatched fee inside the Rossoneri’s dressing room.

However, Tuttosport reports that there would be a deal between the Milan players not to leverage Leao’s contract extension in order to get a pay raise for them, as the Portuguese’s teammates consider him ‘the strongest player in the squad’, therefore worthy of a lucrative offer.

Leao came back from World Cup duties with Portugal in ‘amazing shape’ and the Rossoneri hope his contribution will be crucial in the second part of the season.

According to Gazzetta, Milan are also considering potential alternatives to Leao if the Portuguese fails to extend his contract and among them is Roma star Nicolò Zaniolo.
