Milan fans booed Gigio Donnarumma on his return to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and Football Italia asks you to join the debate on whether or not they did the right thing.

It was a night Donnarumma will remember for a long time, but for all the wrong reasons.

The former Milan goalkeeper received some jeers from his former fans during the whole game against Spain, including the warmup.

Boos for Donnarumma, end of a journey and more: what we learned from Italy-Spain

Although the 22-year-old hoped not to be targeted by his ex-supporters, thousands of them made sure he didn’t receive a warm welcome at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Donnarumma undoubtedly felt the pressure while Italy suffered a 2-1 defeat, forcing them to play the third-place Final at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

Roberto Mancini said he was disappointed by Milan fans whistling Donnarumma, while the goalkeeper reacted with a social media post where he wrote he is looking forward to Italy’s following targets with his head held high.

Italy: Donnarumma delivers message after being booed at San Siro

Italian fans are split over the welcome for the Italian goalkeeper. Some think Milan fans went too far as Gigio was playing with the national team. Others believe their choice to show their discontent is legitimate.

  1. It doesnt matter what shirt he wears, he still the man that chose money over love, we Milanisti do not forgive.

To kiss the Milan shirt again and again during the final season yet already know in the head that your leaving then dont ask for kindness in return.

  2. It’s not that he left for money or to a more ambitious club in its current era, it’s the fact he ran down his contract and left for free which guaranteed himself higher salaries at the expanse of Milan being Recompensed through a transfer fee. In less fancy words he screwed us! Deserves to be booed

  3. About the boo its absolutely right and about the lose its not becouse the boo, its becouse the red card and the strategy of the coach

  4. I think that Figs should cancel all azzurri matches iin Milan if were scheduled. In additional donkeys that were terrifying Gigio must not have opportunity to atrend Italia matches.

  5. As much as i wouldn’t want to get bias over this donnarumma issue! I must in fact say that our Media, our institution and most importantly Italian culture that is going on the edge of the precipices have decided to espouse money, covetousness and self aggrandizement over character in our young professionals…
With all due respect to donnarumma, Mancini, and footballing blogs and news outlets! They are all at fault and bar Don Fabio capello who openly come out and lay down the gauntlet, the others do not help the situations. Milan as an institution transcends any individual and Milan will always remain but men shall go and come but each persons character shall be remembered for long!
As an African I must say we value character, Respect, loyalty, self-control and relationship above filthy lucre! So Donnarumma, his agent, his guradian have not been wise and who knows if it’s the guys poor background that cloud his moral sense and value money over character. For those who understood what character means the MALDINI’S family loyalty and service speaks volume. The Totti’s allegiance is unmatchable. Character matters and poor Donnarumma just got a tip of what lack of character of ingratitude can sow in ones future.

  6. Donnarumma had it coming!

I like the fact that true Milanisti hold the Milan shirt before the Azzurri shirt. As it should be. Supporting a club represents true passion.

Following the national team (whatever your nationality) is more “for fun” and to join in and feel part of the “mass hysteria” (in a good way) during a World Cup or Euro event.

    Hear me out:
    1) Donnarumma is fully entitled to seek out the best contract offer!
    2) Donnarumma is fully entitled to desire a new experience (abroad) in order to develope, if he feels that will bring him closer to his ambition, which I assume is to be regarded as the World’s best keeper.

    However:
    3) If Donnarumma had no intention of extending his contract, and if he made this decision a long time ago (i.e. during the Summer of 2020), then it is dishonest and deceitful to play along with contract negotiations instead of giving the Milan management a fair warning of his intentions and thereby a fair chance to sell him in order not to lose their most valuable asset for nothing!
    4) If Donnarumma really loves Milan he should not put Milan in this situation, especially knowing Milan’s financial situation!

As far as I have heard, Mbappe told PSG, he does not intend to sign an extention and wants to leave at the latest when his contract expires in 2022, giving PSG a chance to sell during the Summer of 2021.

This is what a decent person does – and especially one who claims to love his club!

  7. @Gee .. so then why buy tickets to the game if you can not support the national if he is on it. To put the Milan jersey above the Azzurri is pathetic.
You don’t deserve a team that finally brought the European championship trophy to Italy after 58 year drought, you don’t deserve a team that will fight for everything to win the World Cup for their country.

Many aren’t actual Italians and just “ Milan ” fans That is your right but for Italians to put some foreign owned club that wants everything on the cheap, and has no problem selling off Italian youth players for peanuts like Locatteli, over their country, is you who are rats.
I hope you keep paying for foreign mercenaries who will leave your club at the drop hat for better opportunities.

  8. Cheers are earned, they are not mandatory. It’s a reflection of how fans feel in the moment. Milan fans have every right to boo Dollarumma. That’s the point of live viewing.

  9. Yes, he definitely deserves it 100%. First, Dollarumma didn’t respect the club, the fans, or even the legends like Maldini. When Maldini wanted to sit with him to talk about renewing his contract, he told him “Speak to my agent”!!!! This is Donnarumma who came as a kid from Napoli a few years ago speaking to a legend like Maldini, WT#!!!!!

Secondly, knowing how AC Milan is in a weak position financially because of the pandemic and the club’s previous owners’ irresponsible financial management, he could’ve tried to help by telling them ahead of time to sell him (like Forza Milan mentioned above). I don’t like PSG but I respect a player like Mbappe for his behavior to make his club benefit financially and if I am not mistaken, Ronaldo did the same by renewing his contract with Man U before he left for Real Madrid so Man U can benefit. So it’s the normal and expected behavior from players who want to repay back their clubs.

Third, When Donnarumma arrived in Paris, he said “AC Milan is the past” and when he returned to Milan with the national team, he said, “I will always support Milan”. So whenever he wants he is cool with Milan and when he is among his new buddies in PSG, he is not!!!

Maybe he is one of the top 5 goalkeepers in the world right now (And thanks to AC Milan for making him that), but he is not a decent human being. Yes, we all care about making more money in life but not above our manners, ethics, and behavior.

  10. @Adeleye.. what bunch nonsense, it is African players that have no loyalty move one club and league to another, who offers them the most money.

Perfect example Kessie at Ac Milan who will not sign a new contract .

Why lack character, at most players have a good ten years of a career, if they got injured Ac Milan wouldn’t hesitate to off load a player if he wasn’t the same .

Italian clubs like to nickel and dime Italian player’s while overpaying for foreign players who have zero loyalty .

Has to do with crab in bucket mentality of Italy, tearing down anyone that moves up instead instead giving them helping hand.

Just the opposite of the English, their media and fans expect English clubs to overpay for English players, have no problem when they move from one club to another if it’s for money or trophies just like Gearlish moved from Villa to Man City this year and Harry Kane made known he wanted out of Spurs, didn’t show for practice to force a move, through it all he was never booed by Spurs fans after deal fell through.

  11. What can we expect from these types of fan? They also did the same thing to Maldini before his retirement
