Inter full-back Alex Telles is “eternally grateful” to Coach Roberto Mancini, and targets Champions League qualification.

The Brazilian joined the Nerazzurri from Galatasaray this summer, with Mancio having previously been on the bench of the Istanbul giants.

“He helps me a lot,” Telles told Goal Brazil when asked about Mancini.

“In training he’s always very active, he gets involved in tactical training and with the ball. He’s always in contact with the players and the pitch, I think he likes it that way because he was a player.

“He’s a Coach who has confidence in my work and my potential, I’ll be eternally grateful to him.

“Mancini has been very important for my career, I respect him very much for his past as a player and a Coach, but also for the respect he has for me.”

The Beneamata’s target this season was Champions League qualification, but they are currently six points adrift of Roma in the third and final slot.

“The quality of this group means we could have fought for the Scudetto, but unfortunately that objective is too far away now.

“We got a good run of wins in the first half of the season, even if a lot of them were 1-0. We were top, but we knew the first half of the season didn’t count for anything.

“We need to give our best now, we’re in a position to get third place which gets you into the Champions League.

“That’s the basic objective for the team this season, we know that and we’ll try to get there. We have to win, without thinking too much about our rivals.

“Obviously we’ll always have an eye on the results of those around us, but the first thing we have to do is do our job and do it well.”
