The Azzurri boss has had a difficult week, receiving death threats after Claudio Marchisio’s injury controversy, then seeing his side struggle to a draw in Bulgaria.

However, speaking ahead of tonight’s friendly with England at Juventus Stadium the head of the Federation is confident that Conte is will remain.

“I’m not worried he’ll resign, I think he’ll stay,” Tavecchio told Tuttosport.

“We had a frank exchange of ideas. Conte was very down, but he wasn’t thinking about resigning. That word has never come up.

“It was a good idea, coming to Turin [for the match]. I don’t think in a city like this one we’ll face an uncivilised stadium.

“Some idiot will boo, but that’s inevitable everywhere.

“Conte is a great guy, but maybe he should soften his approach a bit.”
