Outgoing FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio is confident the Lega Serie A will elect a new President on December 7 – “the clubs want to close it”.

It had been hoped that the 20 teams could finally elect a new head, likely Giuseppe Vegas, having been without a President since Maurizio Beretta stepped down in April.

Today’s meeting provided no decision, but new discussions will be held next month where a simple majority of 11 can elect a new leader.

“The climate is much more lenient, the clubs want to close it,” Tavecchio, who resigned as the head of the FIGC this month, told reporters after the meeting.

“I think that with what I saw from them we could come to a conclusion on December 7. I think now it’s a different situation from the past. There’s nothing else to say.

“The assembly didn’t consider anything else, I think there have been steps forward in terms of consensus.”
