Italian FA President Carlo Tavecchio says he’s ‘confident’ that Antonio Conte will renew his contract as Italy CT.

The former Juventus Coach’s future in charge of La Nazionale has been speculated on recently, with his current deal due to expire after next summer’s European Championships in France.

However, Tavecchio told reporters today that they would discuss the subject in the spring time and denied that their relationship has grown cold.

“Frosty relationship with Conte? It’s false news,” he said to reporters before a convention on health and sport welfare today.

“The relationship with Conte is very good, today we had lunch together, we’ve become friends for life because from that day we embarked on a path that was uphill.

“Together we’ve put our personal interests and those of the federation aside. We are absolutely in harmony.

“Renewal? We’re moving towards a season of football in which you can no longer guarantee big salaries.

“However the FIGC has 100 per cent intention to respect the agreements made.

“Conte will think twice before leaving the Nazionale, he likes this work, he’s understanding that his job isn’t only as CT but also as a manager and coordinator of all the national teams, and this is no small thing.

“I am confident about the renewal, we will decide with great class and style and will face the subject in the spring,  but certainly not imminently before the European Championships.”
