Carlo Tavecchio’s election as FIGC President appears a formality after he obtained 63.18 per cent of the vote in this afternoon’s second round.
The 71-year-old secured 60.2 per cent of the vote in the first round conducted earlier today, with him having needed two thirds or more of the vote either time in order to be confirmed as the winner.

The 71-year-old secured 60.2 per cent of the vote in the first round conducted earlier today, with him having needed two thirds or more of the vote either time in order to be confirmed as the winner.
A third and final round of voting will now take place, but crucially this time Tavecchio will only need a majority vote – anything more than 50 per cent – in order to see of the challenge of rival Demetrio Albertini.
Based on the way the first two rounds have gone, this seems a certainty to happen.
As such, the controversial Tavecchio is poised to succeed Giancarlo Abete at the head of Italian football’s governing body.
