“Balotelli is an important striker and we expect him to play at his best in a difficult game,” Clarence Seedorf’s assistant manager told Sky Sport Italia.

Andrea Poli has been picked in the 4-2-3-1 system, although Tassotti hinted it may well be more of a 4-3-2-1.

“Poli is a good player who is dynamic and knows when to push up. He probably won’t start as far forward as in the first leg, but he will suit his characteristics.

“Atletico are good at set plays and do a lot of blocking in the box. We said to be very wary, as it is one of their strengths.

“We’ll see what Atleti allow us to do. We expect them to attack us and try to get the ball back, as they did it against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“Maybe we’ll try to stay away from the central area and spread the play a bit more.”
