Igli Tare was confused about the COVID situation and highlighted Lazio’s cash flow problems ahead of tonight’s match against Inter.

The Biancocelesti have been inconsistent this season under coach Maurizio Sarri and the coach has asked for some reinforcements to arrive in this month’s transfer window, but the club’s financial situation means that he may not be fully satisfied come the end of the month.

Speaking to DAZN before the match against Inter, Tare first discussed the current COVID situation in Italy and the reduction of stadium capacities.

“I don’t see any difference in the contagions between Italy and England. The green pass would have been enough to deal with this moment, but it was decided differently. We have to adapt, even if I would have hoped for at least 50% open stadiums.

“There is little to discuss and talk about, we are a strange team this season. We’re having some impressive games and others that are puzzling, like the last one. Unfortunately it happens, experience has taught me to stay calm, try to analyse and get out of it as soon as possible.

“We are aware that these things happen, unfortunately we live in a city that is not easy because everyone knows about football. We accept criticism, even if it is sometimes exaggerated.”

He then provided an update on the possible contract extension of Sarri, which will extend his stay in Rome from 2023 to 2025.

“As soon as the president returns, the coach will sign a new contract. It will be difficult to reach fourth place, it’s a goal and we have to give our best.

“The team gives the impression in training that they’ve understood Sarri’s idea of the game, then unexplained blackouts occur. But if the team continues to perform as it has over the last month, we can still give a lot.”

The Lazio sporting director touched on the club’s approach to this month’s transfer window.

“We have a cash flow problem like other teams. When we solve it, we can concentrate on something else.”

Finally, Tare discussed the Francesco Acerbi situation. The Italian defender did a ‘shh’ celebration in the win over Genoa before Christmas, frustrated with the criticisms that he was receiving. The fans were enraged by this and he did apologise on social media, but that has done little to quell the problem.

“We hope to get him back as soon as possible, he’s a lion and always wants to play. He’s apologised to the whole club, it was a hot reaction and most of the fans accepted his apology. We have to hope that everyone does, so we can look forward.”
