Lazio director Igli Tare assures they have ‘decided to start a journey with Maurizio Sarri’ and will not be swayed by setbacks.

The Aquile were crushed 4-0 by Napoli at the weekend and are back in action this evening at the Stadio Olimpico against Udinese.

“We decided to start a journey with Sarri and must be even more decisive, especially during the difficult moments,” Tare told Sky Sport Italia.

“We knew there would be difficulties, sometimes you can get them resolved earlier, sometimes it takes a while. Sarri has a special style of football and we must discuss among us what we need for the future from this team.

“We are going forward with him and absolutely convinced of that.”

They are negotiating to extend his contract, despite the fact Sarri only joined over the summer.

Lazio are struggling to keep up with the race for fourth in Serie A, while they face a head-to-head with Galatasaray for direct qualification to the Europa League Round of 16.

“The objective for this season is to do well in Serie A, the Europa League and also the Coppa Italia. They are three objectives all within reach.

“We are now quite far off the Champions League places, but while there is some chance, we’ve got to keep fighting.”
