Former Juventus goalkeeper Stefano Tacconi has played down the severity of coronavirus, calling it ‘just the flu’.

Italy has registered more than 30,000 deaths from COVID-19 since the virus became a global pandemic in March, but Tacconi maintains it is not much worse than the common cold.

“For me, the coronavirus is just the flu,” he told Radio Sportiva.

“When they tell me in a conference that there have been thousands of deaths, tell me which ones were of coronavirus. You can’t tar them all with the same brush.

“I’d want to resume playing, even in front of fans.”

The ex-Italy international, on his 62nd birthday, then talked Adrien Rabiot, Giorgio Chiellini and Gianluigi Buffon.

“Rabiot’s a lucky boy. If he wants to leave, Juve wouldn’t struggle without him.

“I would’ve agreed to a pay cut.” As for Chiellini, it’s the usual rubbish. I said so many things too!

“And as for Buffon, let's make him break this record.”
