"I congratulate Simone, who is proving to be a good Coach," the ex-England boss told Corriere dello Sport. "He's doing well, I'm happy for him and for Lazio and I'm sure it will continue. He has shown great qualities after coming from a difficult situation."

"When I arrived at Lazio, Simone was very young but also already studious. He has Lazio and football in his heart.

"I was not surprised by his success on the bench. It helps that he knows Rome and the atmosphere very well.

"Lazio are emotional and play to win, the start of the season has been really enjoyable. They will fight for a European place, but I wish them success in even greater goals.

"At Lazio I had a very strong team made up of players with personality and technique, it was the team of dreams.

"We could have also won the Champions League. We won seven trophies in three years, I don’t think that’s a small thing. We were at the top of world football."
