The bizarre incident at the Stadio Arechi might have been an act of superstition to bring good luck to Salernitana ahead of the 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona.

Reports emerged of a break-in at Salernitana’s ground, where someone had covered the pitch in salt ahead of the game against the Gialloblu tonight.

Salernitana pitch vandalised ahead of Verona game

Salernitana bounced back from being 2-0 down to claim a point against Igor Tudor’s men and it might have been the luck of the salt that helped them bounce back during the game.

During the pre-match inspection, grains of salt were found on the pitch, near the benches and in the penalty area under the Curva Nord.

Tuttomercatoweb reports the local police are investigating the incident to discover the nature of the gesture, which reportedly could be an act of superstition rather than vandalism.

The southerners throw salt supposedly to bring good luck, and the act of superstition might have been made to give Salernitana a boost after a poor start to the new campaign.
