Florentino Perez, Joan Laporta and Bernd Reichart attended the New Economy Forum in Madrid this morning without a prominent representative of the Super League, former Juventus President Andrea Agnelli.

The ex-Bianconeri Chairman resigned at the end of November along with the entire board of directors following an investigation over alleged financial irregularities.

Agnelli was one of the most prominent architects of the Super League, which 12 elite clubs launched in April 2021, but collapsed within 48 hours.

Juventus and La Liga giants Barcelona, Real Madrid are the only three clubs still formally involved in the project.

This morning, Perez, Laporta and Reichart, CEO of A22 Sports, the company behind the Super League, gathered at the New Economy Forum in Madrid.

“Agnelli would have loved to be here,” Reichart said as quoted by TMW.

“The Super League is not dead, it’s still alive. We want to improve football and for this reason, we are talking to all parties. We want to resume the enthusiasm and provide an adequate economic structure.”

Super League clubs argue that UEFA abuses market dominance but on Thursday, Advocate General Athanasios Rantos ruled that it’s UEFA’s right to approve new European competitions.

The final ruling from the European Court Of Justice is expected in spring 2023.

“It’s a non-binding opinion UEFA can’t have everything at the same time. The market must be open and determine some rules,” said Reichart.

“UEFA’s system has been existing for 70 years, over the last 30 weeks we spoke to 30 clubs that are losing fear. They want a chance and more financial control.

“Youths watch 10 hours of football and spent 300 hours playing FIFA. They want better games. We don’t football on TikTok, we want the SuperLegue to become the best European competition. Some rapport says that it’s the Premier League and we are working to create better competition.

“UEFA believe they are the United Nations, there are competitions that question their legality and adapt to modern times.

“Talking about a closed competition is what caused the withdrawal from English clubs. They are already changing their mind.”

  1. This needs to be permanent as Wendy’s have not won in Europe in nearly 30 years and in this Century as well.
