Inter could ask for FIFA arbitration if Sunderland refuse to pay £7.5m for Ricky Alvarez.

The player moved on loan with an option to buy that would become mandatory if the Black Cats secured Premier League safety.

However, the club is desperate not to pay up the promised money for the disappointing Argentine, who suffered from a recurring knee injury.

He made only 17 appearances for Sunderland between the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup, scoring one goal.

Of those games, he only started five.

According to the Sunderland Echo, the English side hopes to use his fitness problems as a get-out clause to escape the deal.

If he undergoes knee surgery over the summer, it will boost Sunderland’s cause.

Inter don’t want Alvarez returned and could go to FIFA to have the original contract respected.
