Italy team manager Lele Oriali insists Coach Antonio Conte “did not ask to extend his contract, but will bring this adventure to term.”
There were reports last week, fuelled by President of the FIGC Carlo Tavecchio, that Conte had offered to sign a new deal until 2018 rather than his current contract to 2016.
“Conte will bring this adventure with Italy to term and we hope he’ll do it in the best possible way,” Oriali told news agency ANSA.

“I have practically been living side by side with Conte for a year. I can tell you he is fired up and has character, as well as being full of initiatives.
“He did not ask to extend his contract, it was just my joke. It happened during the Roma–Lazio derby when I was sitting next to Federation President Tavecchio and Conte.
“Tavecchio realised it was only my joke too.”
There continue to be rumours Conte could leave the Italy job before Euro 2016.
Meanwhile, former Inter director Oriali also commented on Saturday’s Champions League Final between Juventus and Barcelona.
“I want to compliment Juve for the season, which has not yet concluded. The Bianconeri did great things and now another huge challenge awaits them. I wish them the best.
“I also wish to compliment Parma for the pride, professionalism and dignity shown during this difficult year.”
The Ducali did not receive any wages since July 2014 and the club is looking for a new buyer.
