Mario Suarez assures he’s “very happy” at Fiorentina, and will fight for “more space” in the team.

The Spanish midfielder joined the Viola this summer from Atletico Madrid, but has so far made just three Serie A starts under Coach Paulo Sousa.

“I’m very happy in Florence,” Suarez insisted in an interview with Marca.

“Everything is going well, the city is wonderful and I’ve had a great reaction from everyone. I had an adjustment period to go through at first, but on balance it’s definitely been positive.

“Italian football is very different from Spanish football. When we play from home especially, because our opponents line up behind the ball, and the pitches are sparse and hard.

“The way Fiorentina play is also new to me, keeping possession constantly and always trying to make the play. At Atletico we always played on the break.

“The other Spanish players at Fiorentina have helped me, I often spoke with Borja Valero before joining the Viola. We’d been teammates in the past, and his advice was very useful.

“He’s very attached to Fiorentina, and he spoke very highly of them. Unfortunately my season didn’t get off to the best start, but I think I’ve turned the page I needed to in order to have a good year.

“If I play doesn’t only depend on me. I absolutely do not regret my decision, I’ll give Sousa a headache to find more space.

“I like the ideas of our Coach, his style of football is more mobile and less about position. I feel at ease, we’re first in Serie A and we want to go on like this.

“Fiorentina have had two fourth-place finishes in a row, and we have the opportunity to improve this year. That said, we have to take it one game at a time, without making any predictions.

“I want to be consistent with Fiorentina to get into the Spanish national team and maybe Euro 2016.”
