The midfielder moved to Artemio Franchi as part of the deal which saw Stefan Savic move in the other direction, and was presented to fans and media today.

“I’d completed a cycle in Spain,” Suarez explained in a Press conference.

“I’d won everything I could win. I was looking for a new challenge, and I’m convinced we can achieve great things together.

“From the beginning I was intrigued by the Viola project, after hearing from Borja Valero who told me very good things about the team and the city."

“I’m convinced we have a good team, we can still improve and achieve important targets.

“Fiorentina have shown in recent years that they can play good football, now we have a new Coach [Paulo Sousa], who asks us to press relentlessly to get the ball back.

“The team is competitive, we want to cause problems for any team we play against. I think this will be an excellent season for Fiorentina.”

Suarez also spoke highly of the standard in Serie A, and believes Italian football is in the midst of a resurgence.

“Italian football was the best in the world for years. Now it’s growing again, this is a top League.

“I’m here to give my all, it will be a competitive League, because there are always six or seven teams fighting for the Europa League.”

Finally, the 28-year-old discussed the importance of Giuseppe Rossi, who missed the entirety of last season with a knee injury.

“For me, Giuseppe is a world-class player,” Suarez said.

“He’s recovering, he’s working very well. He’s getting better, and the coaches are optimistic. I really hope he’ll be available for the start of the season, he’s key.”
