President Massimo Ferrero warns Sampdoria ‘must do better’ after the Europa League disaster, but Walter Zenga’s job is safe for now.

The Blucerchiati were humiliated 4-0 by Vojvodina in Turin last night, and will almost certainly crash out of Europe at the first hurdle.

“We’ll play the next game, then we’ll see,” Ferrero told reporters after a meeting with Coach Zenga.

“I’m someone who changes scenes a lot.

“I have a team of good players, they’re talented and motivated. Yesterday we lost, that can happen. Zenga can sleep peacefully.

“We have to adapt to the Europa League, that was the first match for us. The players know they have to do better for me and the fans. Everyone must do better.”

The film producer was also asked whether there was any hope of Samp turning the result around in the second leg.

“We have to think about getting something good out of this bad thing. We’ve made it into Europe, we don’t want to throw away this opportunity.”
