Crotone coach Giovanni Stroppa warns ‘it’s basically a different sport’ stepping up from Serie B to the top flight.

They earned promotion by finishing second in Serie B behind Benevento and started pre-season training today.

“I expect a far more difficult campaign, because inevitably it is a step up to Serie A. It’s basically a different sport,” Stroppa told Sky Sport Italia.

“There are also other levels of difficulty, because we have very little time to prepare for the new season. It’s going to be an anomalous campaign for everyone.

“It’s a limited squad for the initial stage of training, but in a week we’ll start knuckling down and see what moves we can make on the transfer market, both coming in and going out.

“We have a vision of what we want for the team, so keeping many of the lads who earned promotion, but also introducing players more suited to Serie A level. It’s about improving what we have, not changing.”

Crotone already know that Ahmad Benali will remain after extending his contract.

“He wanted to stay and we are happy to keep him. The adventure continues together.”
