Crotone coach Giovanni Stroppa insists his men ‘are on the right track’ and just need to be more clinical both in attack and defence after a 4-1 defeat to Sassuolo.

The Squali have zero points after three rounds, but the performance at the Mapei Stadium was much better and they were unlucky to emerge empty-handed.

“Losing the game with four goals really hurts, especially as we basically gifted two of them, and the third goal was the worst, as we allowed a deadly counter-attack and lost our way from that moment,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Other than that, it was a great performance. It hurts to leave the pitch after playing that well and knowing we lost 4-1, but we are on the right track.

“We created chances, had good possession on their own turf, but weren’t clinical enough in our finishing once again. We need to start scoring goals and be more determined in the final third when we get into those positions."

Crotone have made huge changes to their personnel since promotion from Serie B and haven't finished yet.

“I asked for players who have Serie A experience, preferably Italian, and we are currently paying the price for the step up to a different level of football. It’ll take us a while to settle in and more players will certainly come before the deadline to complete the squad.

“I believe we’ll get there, because playing with this attitude, style and positivity means we are on the right track.”
