Kevin Strootman celebrated his first Serie A start for Roma since January 2015. “I’ll be exhausted tomorrow, but that’s fine.”
The Dutch midfielder had three knee ligament operations since March 2014, but finally managed to play a full game in today’s 3-2 win away to Genoa.
“I feel good, we got three points and I played 90 minutes, so I am very happy,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“I’ll be exhausted tomorrow, but that’s fine. The worst is over. Am I a new buy for Roma? I think so, yes.
“We know every game is difficult in Italy, as Inter lost here at Genoa. We fought hard and got back into the game like a great team.”
Coach Luciano Spalletti said it was “my fault” Strootman hadn’t played before now.
“That’s not true, because the other players did a great job by winning so many games and were in better shape than me.
“I did feel ready to play over the last two weeks, though I didn’t know when I’d get the chance. Now I have played and I am happy.
“I don’t want to look back, but forward.”
