The Giallorossi face an anxious wait for tests to be carried out on their Dutch midfielder, after he was forced off early into their eventual defeat to Napoli on Sunday night.

Speculation is that ligament damage may have been sustained in spraining his left knee, whilst he left the San Paolo on crutches.

For one of his teammates, to lose him would be a significant blow.

“I hope it is nothing serious, because he is very important for us,” Bastos told Roma Channel after yesterday’s game.

“It would be hard for us if we were to lose him, but we also do have a squad that can continue to do well.”

Bastos considered the 1-0 defeat from yesterday too.

“Were we unlucky? This is football – we played well, but we were unable to score the goals.

“It is a great shame, because we have proven to be a great team, but we are still ahead of Napoli and we should not feel despondent for this defeat.

“We knew that Napoli were strong, we blocked them well, but they took advantage of the only opportunity that they had.”
