Kevin Strootman admits “it’s hard to leave Roma” as the Eternal City is “so beautiful that you can’t compare it to anywhere else.”

Strootman has been occasionally linked with moves away from Roma, but the midfielder put his injury problems behind him last season to play a key role in the Giallorossi’s runners-up, Serie A finish and return to the Champions League.

“Roma is Roma and it's hard to leave, you can’t get away easily. We all have the ambition to win something here,” he told NBC.

“Getting back on the pitch was a relief, especially at the start. The staff did a great job.

“I played 50 games [last season] and we’ve qualified for the Champions League. I feel really good and I’m happy to repay the club on the pitch.
