Andrea Stramaccioni hit back at Inter critics after a confident win at Torino and forgives Wesley Sneijder for reacting badly to a substitution.

“I think we prepared the game very well against a side with clear characteristics,” said the Coach after a 2-0 victory.

“We kept the ball for most of the match and controlled the opposition forwards. In the second half we gave away the ball in too many dangerous positions and the tide could’ve turned at that point.

“It was important for us to get the win after our setback against Roma, especially as Torino were one of the form teams.”

Sneijder was substituted and seemed irritated at the decision, walking straight into the locker room without stopping by the bench.

“It’s only normal that he’d be angry,” shrugged Stramaccioni. “Sneijder is an important player and he’d love to play every game to the end, but he had played for Holland this week and I also wanted to send a message to the team by introducing another striker. I didn’t want us to be pegged back.”

This performance confirmed a curious trend that has seen Inter win all their away matches between Serie A and the Europa League, but struggle badly at San Siro.

“I think the only real defeat was against Roma, as the others were second leg ties. What disappoints me is that so far we haven’t been able to win in front of our fans.

“Over the last few days I’ve heard all sorts of horrible things about the defence, but the truth is that a team defends with 10 men and attacks with 10 men.

“Many critics sneered when they saw Juan Jesus in the starting XI, but I am happy he proved them wrong.

“I never got too downhearted after the post-Roma criticism and I certainly won’t get ahead of myself now. I focus only on working.”
