Udinese Coach Andrea Stramaccioni says he doesn’t believe Luis Muriel will leave the Friuli side in January.

The Colombian forward has declared that he is close to joining Sampdoria, as he recovers from injury in his homeland.

However, in a Press conference today, the Zebrette Coach has played down such talk.

“I believe that historically Udinese have not been very active on the January transfer market,” Stramaccioni told assembled media.

“The club makes planning its cornerstone, the January market is for plugging gaps, and clubs which need that.

“Excluding emergencies, our team is complete. We often have offers for our best players but we haven’t said they can leave.

“Each time Muriel has played he has done well, he’s a player I believe in, and I’m sure he’ll do well.

“Under my management he’s been unlucky with injuries, every time I’ve seen that he’s in top condition I’ve played him, I respect him.

“It seems strange to me that these statements always come when he’s away from Udine, Luis is an Udinese player, and right now the decisions on the pitch are for the Coach, and off it they’re for the club.”
