Serie A is taking measures to save Italian football from economic stagnation during the forced break due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Although the Lecce President couldn’t talk about the “confidential” discussion about “various issues”, he revealed that they are discussing “how to get revenue”.

“We are looking to create a daily comparison among all Serie A Presidents, together with [Lega Serie A President Paolo] Dal Pino and [CEO Luigi] De Siervo,” he told Radio Punto Nuovo. “Even today we had yet another meeting to address various issues, which are confidential.

“A shared document will be released shortly. We are looking for how to get revenue if the championship doesn’t resume. We are talking about €200m to €300m.

“One way could be to reduce wages in relation to a certain period. The footballing system risks exorbitant damages, so you must also be able to contemplate playing in August.

“We had been talking about play-offs and play-outs, but I was absolutely sceptical. I think the proposal fell through.”

Sticchi Damiani is not particularly worried about the risk of bankruptcy for the Giallorossi but accepts that the current period will make a big impact also at the Via del Mare.

“It all depends on what kind of policy and what kind of debt the different clubs have,” he added. “Lecce have no debt, but it would surely have a big impact, even without it.”
