Roberto Stellone admired Frosinone’s fortitude as they kept pushing until a final 3-1 defeat to Roma.

Daniel Ciofani had cancelled out an early Radja Nainggolan strike to go into the break 1-1 at the Stadio Olimpico, but a moment of magic from Stephan El Shaarawy and late Miralem Pjanic counter finished them off.

“It was an excellent first half performance in which we closed Roma down and were dangerous on the counter,” Stellone told Mediaset Premium.

“Roma’s great goal didn’t make our heads drop, we tried to get the equaliser and without that late third goal we might even have achieved it. Our mistake led to the third goal and that was the end of that.

“We mustn’t give up, as in eight rounds we picked up two points, but a run like this could easily happen to one of the teams ahead of us in the table.

“We were penalised more than we deserved tonight, as there were relatively few errors individually or tactically. We caused Roma quite a few problems.

“Unfortunately in the second half Roma rediscovered their confidence. We must get a result against Bologna in the midweek round, because on top of results what we most lack right now is confidence.

“We’ve never been able to win ugly this season, so even that would boost belief.”
