Dejan Stankovic cannot forgive Rafa Benitez for benching him at the Club World Cup and reveals “he really didn't work at Inter.”

The midfielder was furious after he was only given a substitute's role for the Club World Cup Final against Mazembe, which proved to be the last game in charge for Benitez.

“I cannot forgive him for that choice,” Stankovic told Serbian newspaper Sportski Jurnal.

“I had played a great semi-final, scoring the goal that broke the deadlock. Despite all this, he left me out. I was shocked, but I wasn't the only one, as my teammates couldn't believe it either. Thankfully we managed to win the trophy anyway.”

Benitez made a ‘back me or sack me' statement straight after that 3-0 victory and has been replaced by Leonardo.

“Was Benitez sacked because of this incident? I don't know, but he really didn't work at Inter,” laughed ‘Deki.'

“In 2014 my contract with Inter expires and I'll be 36, so that could be the right time to stop. I am not thinking about a return to Red Star Belgrade, as my family is settled in Milan, but I would like to play my final match at the Maracanà in Belgrade.”
