Dejan Stankovic insists Inter are “more united than ever” ahead of the battle for third place with Lazio.

“Clearly some couldn't wait to criticise us after five years in which we did nothing but win,” said the Serb midfielder.

“But anyone who thinks we let success go to our heads is wrong. We always kept our feet on the ground and the principle characteristic of this team is humility.”

The Nerazzurri suffered a series of setbacks that saw them slip out of the Champions League and Scudetto race.

They picked themselves up with a 1-0 Coppa Italia semi-final victory away to Roma and on Saturday face Lazio in a head-to-head for third place.

“We realised the best thing to do in this difficult moment was to stay together and we will be until the end of the season.

“I have always been proud to be a part of this group and I am even more so when we are in a tough spot. We're more united than ever.”
