Sporting CP's economic demands for Joao Mario are seen as too high by Inter, who are now playing a waiting game.

The deal for the Portuguese European champion was repeatedly said to have reached the final stages, but president Bruno de Carvalho's meeting with the Nerazzurri did not bring about closure.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the two parties failed to reach an agreement as de Carvalho attempted to raise the price to €50m, or alternatively add a clause that would give the Portuguese club 10 per cent of the player's price in a future transfer deal.

Furthermore, the president expects the payment to be made in two instalments, rather than the four proposed by Inter.

The Biscione turned down all of these requests, but they have not given up on the player. They are currently waiting to see if a better option can be found in the future, and they are hoping Sporting will be pressed by their banking debts into finding a solution.
