Spezia are reportedly working hard to secure a loan deal for Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, making a decisive approach yesterday.

The 25-year-old Italian shot stopper’s current contract expires with the Partenopei next year and he’s not put pen to paper on a renewal yet due to concerns over his role at the club, despite having reportedly agreed the terms of a new deal. Meret has been in the spotlight in Campania this summer and many have been unconvinced that he’s the right option to move forward with.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Spezia made a decisive approach yesterday to try and secure a loan deal for Meret, keen to pick up the Napoli shot stopper after failing to sign Bartlomiej Dragowski from Fiorentina.

First, the 25-year-old Italian would sign a one-year renewal with Napoli before heading out on a season-long dry loan deal. Things are moving forward quickly and everything could be finalised before the end of this week.

The arrival of Meret to Spezia also allows Lazio to close out a deal for Ivan Provedel. The Biancocelesti have been waiting to pick up the goalkeeper for a little while now and this situation should be enough to see them across the finish line.
