Spartak Moscow called Luciano Spalletti a clown after the Napoli coach refused to shake Rui Vitoria’s hand. ‘So much for fair play.’

The Russians won the Europa League match 2-1 this evening, with a brace from Aleksandr Sobolev and Eljif Elmas getting one back.

Spalletti: ‘I’ll tell you why I didn’t shake Rui Vitoria’s hand’

At the final whistle, Rui Vitoria walked over with hand outstretched and Spalletti held up both his hands, refusing to enter the traditional gesture.

It did not go unnoticed, especially as it was all on camera along with Rui Vitoria’s bemused expression.

Spartak Moscow’s social media team had already been mocking Napoli after their win in Italy, putting Piotr Zielinski’s mis-kick into a Spiderman trailer.

They were therefore even more cutting after this incident, describing Spalletti as a clown.

  1. As a born Neapolitan, I of course want my Napoli to recover and get out of the Group Stage, but Spartak Moscow’s utter lack of class makes me want it even more so my guys can meet them later in the tournament. I’d love to see Napoli send Spartak Moscow packing.
