Primavera youth team Coach Alberto De Rossi took charge of the training session this afternoon and will do again on Thursday morning.

Spalletti is in Miami, where he arrived late last night for talks with President James Pallotta and director Mauro Baldissoni.

Sky Sport Italia claim a deal has been done on an 18-month contract and Spalletti will arrive at Fiumicino Airport in Rome on Thursday at 11.30 GMT.

He’ll be driven to Trigoria, pose for an official photograph and sign the contract, then take charge of the afternoon training session.

This is a return for Spalletti, who was already at the helm of Roma from 2005 to 2009 under previous President Franco Sensi.

He is the last Coach to win any silverware with the Giallorossi, getting two editions of the Coppa Italia and lifting the Italian Super Cup.

Roma were runners up twice in a row under Spalletti, then finished sixth in 2008-09.

He resigned on September 1 2009 after losing the first two games of the season.
