Both sets of ultras continue their protest at the introduction of barriers in the Curva Sud and Nord, so the Stadio Olimpico is expected to be half-empty.

“It’s a great shame to read these numbers in the papers,” confessed Spalletti in the Press conference.

“I’ve seen the Curva Sud, I know it is a sacrifice for the fans to not be there in a derby. I’d love to sit down with the authorities and talk about the situation, to understand it better and see if we could work something out.

“I’d prefer we sit around a table and discuss a project to fill the Stadio Olimpico.”

Stefano Pioli is under huge pressure at Lazio and missing numerous key players, but Spalletti won’t take them for granted.

“I’ve seen him work, he is a top level professional and will ensure Lazio know what to do tomorrow. However, we will take the initiative and play to win. That is our plan always, to become a side that can openly take the game to the opposition, regardless of who they are.”

Could Daniele De Rossi be placed in the starting XI?

“He had some very good training sessions lately, so it is certainly possible. I also have to evaluate the balance of the team and there are others who can fulfil that role. De Rossi, above all, knows exactly how I think.”
