Luciano Spalletti believes Roma’s 3-1 win at Carpi will provide “the indicators to go forward” this season.

The Giallorossi put together a fourth consecutive victory and flew into third place for at least 48 hours, awaiting Sunday’s head-to-head between Fiorentina and Inter.

“The performance was one of character, without big errors, as the lads have finally become convinced they can take the initiative from start to finish with a lot of quality on show,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“We can do better, but it was a deserved victory. When Carpi scored the equaliser, the players saw the same old film replaying in their minds and had a moment of fear, but instead they got back on track.

“A Coach tries to give the contribution, but they know the right path.”

Dzeko hadn’t found the net since November, while his last goal from open play was in August, so how important was his breakthrough?

“Tonight we did many things well and one of them was to find a goal for Dzeko. We had joked in the locker room as some of the misses were extraordinary, but this time the assist and finish were both perfect. Dzeko can take the team to dinner this time!

“The team moved the ball around well with quality, players who haven’t done as much like William Vainqueur proved what a strong contribution they can give. We found many elements today that will help us for the future.

“The most important thing is that we lifted the tempo after the break and never let it drop. We didn’t change attitude and we kept looking for more goals, so tonight I am relaxed because I am convinced this performance will give us the indicators to go forward.

“That is also true going forward against Real Madrid. We bring this victory within us and it gives a further boost. It is a very difficult match, but we are going to go out there and play, not sit at home.”

Spalletti urged the players to salute the visiting fans at the Stadio Braglia this evening.

“We are a single entity, Roma and Rome, from the centre circle to the end of the Curva Sud, and we want to play these games all together.

“I know the authorities met to discuss the situation at the Olimpico and I hope the fans will heed the message, because we need our supporters.”
