Luciano Spalletti assures it’s “too early” for Inter-Roma to be decisive for fourth place and won’t rule them out of the Scudetto race either.

“It’s still early to call this tie decisive for the Champions League places. Obviously a game like this can bring enthusiasm and self-belief, but there’s a long way to go yet and not even the nine points separating us from Napoli are decisive yet,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“I haven’t seen such a big change in performances lately, even if the results didn’t go quite as well. We always worked in the same way and at times the incidents just went against us. It’ll be important to maintain concentration and not get distracted.

“It’s going to be a very even match with two strong teams. I don’t see either of them risking more than the other. I expect it to be an entertaining battle with determination, muscle and quick reactions.

“I want us to attack Roma, attack our own timidity and have our say.

This is a reunion with his old club Roma and Spalletti beat the Giallorossi at the Olimpico back in August.

“I had important moments of my life and career with Roma, so it’s like revisiting a childhood haunt and seeing old friends. I am very happy at Inter now and I have a two-year contract, so expect to see that project through and hope to qualify for the Champions League.”

While Rafinha is coming in from Barcelona, along with Lisandro Lopez from Benfica, Joao Mario is considering a loan move to West Ham United.

“It’s up to us to help Rafinha find his form and fitness, not the other way around. Otherwise, we risk sending out the wrong message to those who have fought hard here up until now.

“Lisandro Lopez is already ordering everyone about in training. He has the shout and determination you need in a defender.

“Joao Mario had some good performances, perhaps better as a substitute than from the start, but I think he gave his general contribution to our results.”

If there’s one player Spalletti can rely on, then it’s captain and top scorer Mauro Icardi.

“Icardi is one of those guys who when presented with an obstacle will look at you, smile and ask when we can get started. All you have to do is follow him.”
