Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti hails the Champions League draw for putting them up against ‘legendary clubs who play in temples of European football’ like Liverpool, Ajax and Rangers.

The Partenopei were third seeds in the draw for the group phase of the tournament and will be up against the Champions of the Netherlands, the side that reached the Final of this competition last season and Scottish team Glasgow Rangers.

“We’ve been paired with three very tough teams, but let me also say that I don’t think any of them will be very happy to be up against Napoli,” said Spalletti on the club’s official website.

“It is a very tough group, as they almost all are at this level, but it’s very complicated to guess what our chances are of qualification.

“The most important thing will be to ensure we are up to the task when playing in the most prestigious club competition on the planet. If we do that, then we will automatically increase our chances of progress.”

These all represent intriguing journeys for the Napoli fans and players to go on.

“We are in a group with three teams who represent the best in the history and tradition of European football,” continued Spalletti.

“These are three legendary clubs who play in temples of European football, the Johan Cruijff Arena, Anfield Road and Ibrox Stadium. It’s a real deep dive into the history and tradition of European football.”
