Luciano Spalletti insists whether Inter qualify for the Champions League next season ‘depends on us’, despite being out of Serie A’s top four.

Inter face Atalanta on Saturday in fifth place after their defeat to Torino last weekend, and Spalletti admits the Nerazzurri can ill-afford to drop any more points.

“There are increasingly less and less opportunities, which means they are worth more than ever and must be exploited,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We have to pick up a good result [against Atalanta] and give ourselves a chance to get back into the first four before the Rome derby. It depends on us.

“Vecino, Candreva and Miranda will be assessed. Gasperini will also be unable to call on important players like Petagna and Ilicic. Everyone has problems at this time of the season.

“Rafinha in midfield? We have to be careful, but it’s a viable solution. He likes to touch the ball a lot and drop deeper to receive it.

“He’s a player who can give us an important hand, but Inter have been able to get by without him [in central midfield].

“VAR? For me, it’ll be used at the highest level because it’s the right thing to do. Fair play to those who have had the courage to create it and propose it when many were against it.

“Buffon? It’s not for me to comment. Having analysed it, I have an idea in my head, but you [journalists] are the professional commentators.

“Do I deserve credit for Roma’s CL progress? No, it belongs to Roma this season. I worked with a good team, who finished a point in front of Napoli and qualified for the Champions League. The rest is down to Di Francesco.”
