Luciano Spalletti accepts a 1-1 draw with Inter as “a good result” and tried to reassure misfiring Edin Dzeko.

“We lost the ball too often today, were not good in possession and were forced to move from right to left, so the team used up a lot of energy and that means you’re not as sharp in front of goal,” the Roma Coach told Mediaset Premium and Sky Sport Italia.

Inter did well to take the lead and we did well to react. It was an entertaining game between two strong sides and the 1-1 result is correct, even if I expected more from my lads this evening.

“The team reacted well and in the end I think this draw is to be accepted. It’s good that we were unpredictable, got behind the lines and troubled the opposition in the final third, so in that sense it’s a good result.

Dzeko missed another sitter, but one of his scuffed finishes turned into an accidental assist for Radja Nainggolan’s equaliser.

“When the team is daring and takes the game to their opponents then anything can happen, but the essential element is to have this attitude.

“Dzeko must put all of his character into the game. It’s strange that every now and then this happens, but he really does have the quality to be a complete striker. We have to go forward by putting our faith in him.

“Dzeko played his part, he fought hard and worked for the team, though some of his choices were dubious. I introduced him at that moment because Inter were closing up and we needed someone more physical, otherwise we ran too big a risk on the counter with Inter’s pace.”

Inter did score on the counter when Alessandro Florenzi was caught out of position by Ivan Perisic.

“If Florenzi doesn’t use his characteristics and acts as the full-back who forces his opponent back, then he can get put under pressure. He can decide the game he plays and these things can happen.”

Replays showed there should’ve been a penalty for Roma, as Joao Miranda jumped with his hand raised and punched the ball off Dzeko’s head.

“We hadn’t seen it from the field, to be honest. It’s very difficult. If someone had seen it then that would’ve been a penalty, but we accept the call from the Coaches’ Association to not comment on refereeing decisions.”
