Zenit St. Petersburg Coach Luciano Spalletti has thanked Francesco Totti for congratulating him on winning the Russian League, but then hit back at the Roma captain.

Spalletti is still aggrieved at some of the hurtful things Totti said when he resigned after four very successful years in charge of Roma last September.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Spalletti said: "I thank Totti again for the compliments, but I would have preferred it if he had said something more when I left.

"But I thank him all the same for the compliments."

The 51-year-old then distanced himself from reports linking him with the Inter job.

"I have never been contacted by Inter. I have a contract here.

"I will continue to be Zenit's Coach until they sack me or a new situation develops.

"There were never any doubts [that Massimo Moratti would show his full confidence in Benitez].

"Moratti is a serious person. At this present moment in the season the team has paid dearly for a series of injuries.

"Moratti is not the kind of person who turns his back on you after two months."
