Paulo Sousa has taken Fiorentina to third place, but admits the 1-0 win away to Carpi was “very tough.”

Khouma Babacar scored the decisive goal at the Stadio Braglia in Modena.

“It’s always important to win and to show what we’re working on. There hasn’t been much time to work on the details and different dynamics,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We managed some good things today, though it wasn’t easy as Carpi played well and the second half was very tough.

“At the end of the day we got the three points and are very happy with the result.”

Sousa was spotted shouting angrily at Mario Suarez throughout the game.

“I always expect more from myself and the same goes for my players. I want to push them on to give their best every time, so we can all benefit.

“Mario needs a little time to adjust to what we believe is his role within the team.”
Babacar found the net for the second round in a row.

“He has been working very well in training lately, has an eye for goal and is trying to understand what the team needs from him. I hope he’ll continue like this and the whole side can achieve important results.

“For me defending is done by the whole team and it starts from the front. Even when we are under pressure, I am glad to see we are not conceding goals.”

Next weekend Fiorentina face Serie A leaders Inter, who maintained their 100 per cent record today.

“The consistency of the two teams makes us think this will be an extraordinary game. We hope to reach Milan in good shape. Inter invested everything needed to win this Scudetto.”
