Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa says it’s ‘pointless’ to talk about Mohamed Salah, after the winger opted to leave.

The Egyptian international spent the second half of last season on loan with the Viola, as part of the deal which took Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea.

It was revealed last week that although Fiorentina had taken up their option of renewing the loan, the player had vetoed it, leading to a bitter war of words.

The Egyptian international spent the second half of last season on loan with the Viola, as part of the deal which took Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea.

It was revealed last week that although Fiorentina had taken up their option of renewing the loan, the player had vetoed it, leading to a bitter war of words.

“Salah is definitely a player who has had a few offers from other places in recent weeks,” Sousa revealed, speaking to La Nazione.

“Often if you’re not calm then you can make the wrong decisions. Now I’m thinking about the players they have, and what they can do for me, they’re the important ones.

“It’s pointless to talk about him, we need to have peace of mind. We thank him for what he did for us, but now we have to focus on those who are here, who cherish the shirt.”

The departure of Salah could be somewhat mitigated by the return of Giuseppe Rossi, but Sousa admitted that care would have to be taken with the injury-prone striker.

“We need to find the right balance for a lad who has suffered. We must get to know him well, assess his fitness and make decisions with the entire team.

“We want to have him at his best level.”
