Udinese’s Executive President Franco Soldati has added his voice to the clamour for goal-line technology following yesterday’s game with Roma.

There was controversy during Roma’s 1-0 victory yesterday, as it was unclear whether or not Davide Astori’s winning goal had crossed the line, with the defender revealing that the referee had overruled the extra official’s decision to disallow the goal.

“I’m somewhat perplexed by what happened yesterday at Friuli,” Soldati raged in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“There was a very clear penalty by [Urby] Emanuelson, it was a tackle from behind and usually such actions are punished by a penalty and a goal.

“For the first goal, [Fabio] Maresca says clearly that it’s not a goal, while the referee Guida gives the goal. At this point we have to take away the officials behind the goal-line and introduce technology!

“Technology is the most suitable and convenient option, it can help you decide in real time whether it was a goal or not.

“Udinese have suffered a lot of these situations recently, and I think we’ve paid enough.

“The best position to judge whether Astori’s header precisely was Maresca’s. It’s hard to be in the position Guida was in and get the perspective to judge whether the ball was in or not.

“In the second incident, with Emanuelson, nobody noticed anything, which is even more serious. [Udinese owner Giampaolo] Pozzo has patented a foolproof system for the introduction of technology – a patent which he gave to the FIGC by the way.

“The extra officials have a cost, maybe we can think about making a broader investment to introduce technology.

“Tavecchio and Galliani have made moves to that effect, but they’re behind the times. Udinese deserved a draw yesterday, there’s not much else to say.”
