Wesley Sneijder has revealed his belief that current Inter Coach Andrea Stramaccioni is responsible for his return to a healthier and happier state.

The Dutch playmaker is currently preparing for Euro 2012 with his national team, but took time out to reflect on the previous season at Inter, beginning with his struggles with fitness throughout.

“Now I am back and am playing. However, when I had all those injuries, I thought I’d never get back to normal,” he revealed to Metro this week.

“Also I actually first came back to play too soon. I was anxious to return but also pressured to do so. The club needed me and I wanted to help.”

However, it is more than injuries that Sneijder believes contributed to his indifferent form this past two seasons.

“In the last two years the club have had five different Coaches, each with their own mentality and I’ve played everywhere – attacker, midfielder, playmaker, on the wing.

“At some point I was wondering if I would have to move further back and be catching the ball.

“Fortunately now though, there is a Coach who understands me, he has given me lots of energy and that has put things in order.”

The former Real Madrid man then took a moment to add a new angle to how things are run at Inter and whether there is room for improvement.

“Who looks at the injuries? The team consists of 27 players and five physiotherapists, but obviously, with the team playing every three days, they must focus on those who can play, that is normal.

“But, you must always run, even if you sometimes have too many injuries. Maybe we need to have someone on the outside of the club to assist.”
