Tuttosport reported last week that Skriniar had reached an agreement in principle to extend his contract with Inter until 2023, while the Nerazzurri are thought to have a deal in place for the Atletico Madrid captain this summer.

“We’re close to an agreement, everyone knows I want to stay here,” the Slovakian defender told the newspaper.

“It’d be nice to win a trophy here: we’ve gone without one for too long and everyone wants one.

“I also haven’t won anything yet. When Spalletti said I was worth €100m, I didn’t want to believe it.

“On the contrary, I denied that he’d said it. Certainly it’s nice to hear something like that, but money doesn’t matter. What matters is what you do on the field.

“We have a duty to try to win the Europa League. It’s not the Champions League, but it’s still an important tournament.

“Ronaldo? I think we managed to close him down quite well in Turin. Juve are strong, concede very few goals and have players who can win games by themselves.

“Godin? He can help us become much stronger. Sergio Ramos, [Virgil] van Djik, David Luiz and Thiago Silva are my favourite defenders and I want to learn from each one of them.”
