Inter defender Milan Skriniar reveals he would’ve loved to both play against and alongside Brazil legend Ronaldo, who he rates as the best defenders in the world and a thought for former Sampdoria teammate Bruno Fernandes.

The centre-back answered fan questions for the official club website during the enforced quarantine caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

“It is a delicate time, but we can face it together as a team. We really miss football and training, but what’s important right now is fighting this virus,” said Skriniar.

“I still train at home following the instructions of our staff so that I can keep in shape. Other than that, I spend time with my girlfriend and our two dogs. I play darts and watch TV.

“I hear people singing from the balcony every evening and that’s wonderful, even if I often don’t understand the lyrics.”

He was asked which striker he most would’ve wanted to play against and the Inter star he’d ideally have as his teammate, but gave the same answer to both.

“Ronaldo Il Fenomeno, because he was my favourite player when I was a kid. I’ve had some tough forwards to mark, certainly Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who are the best in the world right now. Kylian Mbappé and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were also difficult, the Milan Derby was my first time against Zlatan.

“The best defenders in the world are Sergio Ramos, who is a real leader. Then I’d say Virgil van Dijk for what he’s done over the last two-three years, plus Kalidou Koulibaly, even if he isn’t having the best time at the moment.

“I think one of my best teammates was Bruno Fernandes. I always liked him back from our time together at Sampdoria.”

Portugal international Bruno Fernandes moved on to Sporting CP and in January Manchester United for €55m.

Skriniar was asked about his decision to come to Inter from Sampdoria in the summer of 2017, after just 18 months in Italy.

“It was incredible, I was off with the Under-21 Slovakia team when I received the messages. I didn’t think twice. Things have changed quite a lot now we’ve moved to a three-man defence, as I had always played with four at the back. Antonio Conte explained what we had to do and we’re working on it to improve every area of our football. I hope to score my first goal for Inter soon, too.”
