New Milan signing Filippo Terracciano will boost Stefano Pioli’s options in defence and midfield, as the 20-year-old can be deployed in multiple positions, as he proved during his time at Hellas Verona.

Milan confirmed the purchase of Terracciano on a permanent transfer from strugglers Verona on Monday.

The 20-year-old made 19 appearances across all competitions with Hellas Verona in the first part of the campaign playing in many different positions. He was initially used as a right-wing-back and left-wing-back but also as a centre-back when Verona used a 3-4-2-1 formation.

When coach Marco Baroni switched to a 4-2-3-1 system, Terracciano was deployed as a right-back and as a left-back.

The 20-year-old can cover the same roles at Milan where, on paper, he will be the backup for Davide Calabria on the right and Theo Hernandez on the left.

The versatile Italian defender can also be deployed on any of the two wings or even as a central defender when Pioli picks a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 system.

There is a sixth role Terracciano can cover, revealed by Geoffrey Moncada during his latest interview on Sunday: central midfielder.

This option should not be underestimated, especially considering that Milan are expected to sell Rade Krunic in the January transfer window. Terracciano is not a deep-lying playmaker, but if he plays in central midfield, then Tijjani Reijnders or Ismael Bennacer can be deployed in the Regista role.

Terracciano has made 39 Serie A appearances and his father Antonio was a former teammate of Stefano Pioli at Verona and Fiorenzuola.
