Andriy Shevchenko admits Italy “controlled the game in the first half,” but was pleased with Ukraine’s friendly draw at Marassi.
The former Milan star is now the Coach of the Ukraine national team and oversaw only his country’s second draw with Italy in eight attempts.
“Italy played very well and I tip my hat to them, especially in the first half. They controlled the game and we made too many mistakes,” Sheva told Rai Sport.

“Marco Verratti is a very important player for Italy and gave them something extra today. Italy created many, many chances in the first half.
“Having said that, Ukraine did better with some good counter-attacks in the second half, we were more compact and I think it went very well.
“Italy were far better in the first half and we were punished for our mistakes. The draw is a wonderful results for us, though.
“We tried to be aggressive and solid, I am very happy and satisfied with our performance. I wish Italy good luck against Poland in the Nations League.”
