Former Milan ace Andriy Shevchenko has praised the Diavolo for the way they destroyed Arsenal in the Champions League.

The Rossoneri put one foot in the last eight of the competition thanks to a 4-0 first leg win over the London club in midweek.

“Milan’s spirit impressed me,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “As did their conviction and their assuredness which they displayed throughout the game.”

Although the Ukrainian concedes that his ex-club are not one of the favourites to lift the trophy, he does believe they have a chance.

“Barcelona and Real Madrid are at the top of their game right now, but a lot of things could happen in this competition…”

Shevchenko, now at Dynamo Kiev, had seven successful years at Milan before his 2006 switch to Chelsea. He also spent the 2008-09 campaign on loan with the Diavolo.
